This paper focuses on complex predicates of the VV type, as illustrated in (1) for the South Asian language Urdu. 1 These types of complex predicates consist of a full lexical verb accompanied by a so-called light verb (other names include vector or explicator verb). The examples in (1) show the light verbs' give','take','sit','fall', and'go', for instance. Their designation as" light verb" is due to the fact that their semantic contribution to the predication is weak and tantalizingly elusive:(1) a. yaasiin-nee keek khaa lii-yaaeng
