Summary: |
Large tumor antigen (T antigen) combines several functional domains on one polypeptide chain of 708 amino acids. One domain is responsible for a specific and an unspecific interaction of T antigen with DNA (see: Fanning et al., Loeber et al., this volume) and a second domain contains an enzymatic activity that breaks the hydrogen bonds of double-stranded (ds) DNA at the expense of ATP (Stahl et al. 1986; for review, see also: Riby and Lane 1983; Stahl and Knippers 1987).
