Synthetic nacre morphologically indistinguishable from the natural archetype was synthesized with amorphous calcium carbonate precursors by confinement in the scaffold of the original insoluble nacre matrix. The precursors were generated using a synthetic polyelectrolyte highlighting the physicochemical aspects of biomineralization.eng
