Abstract
A systematical discussion of Ethical Questions in the Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) started to unfold in the United States during the 1940s and 1950s and came to a provisional climax in the late 1960s and early 1970s. During this time, several ethical codes were released and collected volumes on the matter published. The debate brought about considerable shifts in perspective in the professional communities. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, it slowly flashed over from the United States to Canada and Europe. Today, ethical codes and committees have become scientific ‘normality’ in most of the SBS.
