dc.description.abstractDifferent philosophical views on time are discussed. This includes the fulfillment or suspension of time in representations of eternity in historical development. Thinkers from Augustine to Kant, Heidegger and Wittgenstein are treated. In particular, light is shed on the anthropological and existential dimensions of the temporality of human existence. This is done by contrasting it to conceptions of time and the measuring of time within the philosophy of nature. In this connection conceptions of time in fiction are also examined, with special attention devoted to Goethe’s Faust. Following from this, and with special reference to Schopenhauer, the connection is unfolded between happiness and how time is handled in various life forms.deu
