dc.description.abstractBackground and aims - A study of the flora and vegetation of the Montagne d'Ambre was conducted to determine the floristic characteristics of this forest and to identify the different vegetation types present. Material and methods - The study was done using 58 linear transects located at altitudes ranging from 890 m to 1430 m. Voucher specimens were prepared for identification and were deposited in national and international herbaria. Key results - In total, 640 species and morpho-species in 249 genera and 99 families were identified. At the Montagne d'Ambre, floristic richness, diversity indices and canopy height decrease with altitude, while the percentage of cover of the lower strata of the vegetation increases. Conclusion - This study highlights the effects of elevation and topographic position on floristic and structural characters of the forests above 800 m elevation on the Montagne d'Ambre.eng
