The rapid proliferation of digital technologies has profoundly reshaped various facets of modern life, creating a ubiquitous digital environment that influences how we work, communicate, and manage our lives – including health. Furthermore, digitalization has an enormous impact on how we conduct research in health psychology. This includes how we capture and measure experiences and behavior, as well as how we intervene to promote healthy behaviors. This special issue of the European Journal of Health Psychology, “Digitalization in focus: Potentials and pitfalls from a health psychological perspective,” aims to explore the multifaceted impacts of digitalization on health assessment, health promotion, behavior, and health itself. It sheds light on both the benefits and challenges it presents and highlights implications for future research and practice of health psychology.
