dc.description.abstractThe interaction between international trade and environmental policy has become an important issue in the last few years. Despite the vast body of literature on the linkage between trade and environment, there are hardly any studies which attempt to conceptualize actual policy responses of governments to economic integration. To fill this gap, we suggest a theory-based disaggregation of the compound variable economic integration for deriving more precise expectations on its differential impact on environmental policy arrangements. Drawing on findings of our current research, such as in the field of cross-national policy convergence, this paper seeks to develop a better understanding of the effects of economic integration on environmental policyeng
