Abstract

The interdisciplinary symposium brings together an international group of scholars, who use the representative data set of the GSOEP (established more than 20 years ago as household panel) in their work. The papers integrate psychological and economic perspectives with regard to psychological and developmental issues: age-, cohort- and period-related effects on life satisfaction, effects of economic strain and parenting on future orientation, national differences in trust, and the validation of a test for cognitive abilities in adolescents. The contributions serve to demonstrate the usefulness of the GSOEP for theoretical and methodological advancement in psychology.
