Abstract
Die Bibliothek von Alexandria wird gerne als erste Universalbibliothek charakterisiert. Der Beitrag rekonstruiert diese Charakterisierung als einen Effekt der geistesgeschichtlichen Traditionsbildung, der an das, was über die Bibliothek als Fakten bekannt ist, nur lose angebunden ist.
