Within the scope of this work, interdisciplinary approaches and requirements within the areas of plant biology, geoinformatics and computer science are connected. The major part of the work examines approaches and methods within the surrounding fields of the interactive 3D-computer graphics. Based on the existing conceptual formulation, visualizing complex vegetation and geographic datasets, my goal was to examine the existing approaches methodologically and analytically, in order to develop new approaches and methods to realize the extensive requirements of this task. My scientific contribution represents the interconnecting of processing actual conceptual questions and problems in the area of computer science and 3D-computer graphics, as well as their efficient interaction under praxis relevant aspects. I have focused on the following sub-areas:<br /><br />Run-time quantization of complex realistic plant distribution data with density-progressive wang tile based vegetation distributions with blue-noise/poisson-disk characteristic, under plant-biological motivated error bounds (minimal distance, variability, realistic structural distribution).<br /><br />Hierarchical sorting of produced plant model geometry under special consideration of visual importance.<br /><br />Generating of adjusted billboard presentations of the plant objects under consideration of the hierarchical basic structure of the geometric models.<br /><br />Interconnection of the existing methods for the possessing and presentation of terrain data with efficient position of complex vegetation distribution during the presentation.<br /><br />Development of methods for the efficient simulation of natural global lighting effects without the application of complex simulation models.<br /><br />Application of formal mathematical approaches for the reduction of aliasing artifacts during real-time rendering of shadow maps in 3D-scenes.<br /><br />Improvement regarding the visualization of details in complex vegetation scenes. 2011-03-24T15:55:53Z deposit-license modelling and rendering of complex spatial data structures Interactive landscape visualization
