Zusammenfassung

At the turn of the nineteenth century, the new language of “scientific colonialism” emerged and was shaped in a transnational communicative space by the members of a European colonial community. In this article, I explore key moments of this process that I call the “scientization of colonialism” leading to both the establishment of the colonial as object of scientific knowledge and administrative regulation. The paper investigates in a first section the formation of “scientization” as a cultural code through international practices and institutions highlighting in the second and third section the establishment of an educational landscape and the construction of hybrid and interdisciplinary knowledge fields.
