I show that constructions involving both an adjectival and a verbal predicate require the subject remnant of the adjectival predicate to be marked for the accusative case both in English and German, which cannot be explained by the notion of default accusative case, especially because German has no default accusative case. I argue that a phonologically defective subclause is reanalysed as part of the matrix clausal object, and hence receives accusative morphological case.</dcterms:abstract> <dcterms:available rdf:datatype="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#dateTime">2020-01-08T14:50:46Z</dcterms:available> <dc:creator>Bacskai-Atkari, Julia</dc:creator> <dcterms:isPartOf rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/rdf/resource/123456789/45"/> <dspace:isPartOfCollection rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/rdf/resource/123456789/45"/> <dcterms:title>Structural case and ambiguity in reduced comparative subclauses in English and German</dcterms:title> <bibo:uri rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/handle/123456789/48186"/> <foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://localhost:8080/jspui"/> <dc:contributor>Bacskai-Atkari, Julia</dc:contributor> <dcterms:issued>2014-12</dcterms:issued> <void:sparqlEndpoint rdf:resource="http://localhost/fuseki/dspace/sparql"/> <dc:language>eng</dc:language> <dc:date rdf:datatype="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#dateTime">2020-01-08T14:50:46Z</dc:date> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF>
