Theoretical progress has, however, been hampered by the diverse understandings of this new research tradition. This paper tries to tackle the conceptual diversity in a positive way. We first analyze the neo-institutionalist turn in political science and European studies and then move on to a detailed analysis and comparison of the three competing approaches sociological, historical, and rational choice institutionalism. Next, we will show that the main differences are as much epistemological as theoretical. A convergence towards a unifying institutionalist approach can thus only be possible if some sort of a methodological convergence takes place. We sketch how a synthesis between the competing schools might appear.</dcterms:abstract> <void:sparqlEndpoint rdf:resource="http://localhost/fuseki/dspace/sparql"/> <dcterms:available rdf:datatype="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#dateTime">2011-03-24T10:10:02Z</dcterms:available> <dspace:isPartOfCollection rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/rdf/resource/123456789/42"/> <dcterms:rights rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/page/termsofuse"/> <dc:creator>Aspinwall, Mark D.</dc:creator> <dcterms:hasPart rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/bitstream/123456789/4020/1/aspinwall_schneider_ejpr_2000.pdf"/> <dc:rights>terms-of-use</dc:rights> <dcterms:title>Same menu, seperate tables : the institutionalist turn in political science and the study of European integration</dcterms:title> <dc:format>application/pdf</dc:format> <dspace:hasBitstream rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/bitstream/123456789/4020/1/aspinwall_schneider_ejpr_2000.pdf"/> <dcterms:isPartOf rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/rdf/resource/123456789/42"/> <dc:language>eng</dc:language> <dc:contributor>Schneider, Gerald</dc:contributor> <bibo:uri rdf:resource="http://kops.uni-konstanz.de/handle/123456789/4020"/> <foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://localhost:8080/jspui"/> <dc:contributor>Aspinwall, Mark D.</dc:contributor> <dc:creator>Schneider, Gerald</dc:creator> <dcterms:bibliographicCitation>First publ. in: European Journal of Political Research 38 (2000), 1, pp.1-36</dcterms:bibliographicCitation> <dcterms:issued>2000</dcterms:issued> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF>
