An alternative view claims that crime is also influenced by social interaction phenomena, such as ‘peer pressure’ or ‘neighbourhood effects’. Detecting social interaction in the field is fraught with difficulties, however. In this paper, we argue that given its extensive control possibilities, experiments are well suited to show the potential existence of social interaction effects. We present an experimental study where people can engage in ‘criminal’ activities. We find support for the importance of social interaction: On average subjects steal the more, the more others steal. This behaviour can be interpreted in terms of reciprocity.</dcterms:abstract> <dc:creator>Falk, Armin</dc:creator> <dc:contributor>Falk, Armin</dc:contributor> <dcterms:issued>2002-05</dcterms:issued> <dc:date rdf:datatype="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#dateTime">2017-09-05T07:51:01Z</dc:date> <dcterms:title>"Crime" in the lab-detecting social interaction</dcterms:title> <dc:language>eng</dc:language> <bibo:uri rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/handle/123456789/39981"/> <dc:contributor>Fischbacher, Urs</dc:contributor> <dcterms:available rdf:datatype="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#dateTime">2017-09-05T07:51:01Z</dcterms:available> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF>
