Summary: |
The article discusses speciation of cichlid fishes. Information is presented about the sequencing of cichlid genomes that has provided insight into the wide diversity of cichlids, which number over 2,500 species. Genome traits considered include those that may be responsible for the accelerated evolution of cichlids, and those that could account for why cichlids repeatedly evolve identical adaptations independently.
