The iconic Galápagos tortoises (Chelonoidis nigra) are the largest extant terrestrial ectotherms, yet their ecology is poorly known. Large body size should confer a generalist diet, benign digestive processes and long-distance ranging ability, rendering giant tortoises adept seed dispersers. We sought to determine the extent of seed dispersal by Galápagos tortoises and their impact on seed germination for selected species, and to assess potential impacts of tortoise dispersal on the vegetation dynamics of the Galápagos.</dcterms:abstract> <dc:creator>Wikelski, Martin</dc:creator> <dc:language>eng</dc:language> <dcterms:issued>2012</dcterms:issued> <dc:contributor>Wikelski, Martin</dc:contributor> <bibo:uri rdf:resource="http://kops.uni-konstanz.de/handle/123456789/21949"/> <dc:contributor>Cabrera, Fredy</dc:contributor> <dc:creator>Blake, Stephen</dc:creator> <dc:rights>terms-of-use</dc:rights> <dc:contributor>Yackulic, Charles B.</dc:contributor> <dcterms:title>Seed dispersal by Galápagos tortoises</dcterms:title> <dspace:isPartOfCollection rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/rdf/resource/123456789/28"/> <dcterms:rights rdf:resource="https://rightsstatements.org/page/InC/1.0/"/> <dc:creator>Yackulic, Charles B.</dc:creator> <dc:date rdf:datatype="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#dateTime">2013-02-19T14:28:18Z</dc:date> <dcterms:isPartOf rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/rdf/resource/123456789/28"/> <dcterms:bibliographicCitation>Journal of Biogeography ; 39 (2012), 11. - S. 1961-1972</dcterms:bibliographicCitation> <dc:contributor>Guezou, Anne</dc:contributor> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF>
