Here we show that the homing behaviour of Eptesicus fuscus, known as the big brown bat, can be altered by artificially shifting the Earth's magnetic field, indicating that these bats rely on a magnetic compass to return to their home roost. This finding adds to the impressive array of sensory abilities possessed by this animal for navigation in the dark.</dcterms:abstract> <dcterms:issued>2006-12-07</dcterms:issued> <dc:creator>Thorup, Kasper</dc:creator> <dc:contributor>Holland, Richard A.</dc:contributor> <dc:contributor>Cochran, William W.</dc:contributor> <bibo:uri rdf:resource=""/> <dcterms:available rdf:datatype="">2011-11-16T10:04:00Z</dcterms:available> <void:sparqlEndpoint rdf:resource="http://localhost/fuseki/dspace/sparql"/> <dc:creator>Cochran, William W.</dc:creator> <dspace:isPartOfCollection rdf:resource=""/> <dc:creator>Holland, Richard A.</dc:creator> <dcterms:bibliographicCitation>Publ. in: Nature ; 444 (2006), 7120. - S. 702</dcterms:bibliographicCitation> <dc:creator>Wikelski, Martin</dc:creator> <dcterms:title>Navigation : bat orientation using earth's magnetic field</dcterms:title> <dc:date rdf:datatype="">2011-11-16T10:04:00Z</dc:date> <dc:language>eng</dc:language> <dc:creator>Vonhof, Maarten J.</dc:creator> <dc:contributor>Wikelski, Martin</dc:contributor> <dcterms:isPartOf rdf:resource=""/> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF>
