Exposure of freshly excised antennae, from B. mori females and males, to vapours of [14C]-benzoic acid revealed that the adsorbed acid is rapidly metabolized (15% conversion in 10 s), suggesting the presence of a highly active enzymatic system. The major product could be identified as N-benzoylserine by use of [2H5]-benzoic acid, and mass spectrometry linked to a gas chromatograph (GC-MS) or a liquid chromatograph (LC-MS), for analysis of the metabolites. The conjugation of benzoic acid with an amino acid apparently represents a novel mode for the rapid deactivation of odorant molecules.</dcterms:abstract> <dc:date rdf:datatype="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#dateTime">2011-10-20T11:39:23Z</dc:date> <dc:creator>Oldenburg, Corina</dc:creator> <dc:creator>Oldham, Neil J.</dc:creator> <dc:contributor>Oldenburg, Corina</dc:contributor> <dc:contributor>Boland, Wilhelm</dc:contributor> <dc:contributor>Kaissling, Karl-Ernst</dc:contributor> <bibo:uri rdf:resource="http://kops.uni-konstanz.de/handle/123456789/15555"/> <dcterms:available rdf:datatype="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#dateTime">2011-10-20T11:39:23Z</dcterms:available> <dspace:isPartOfCollection rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/rdf/resource/123456789/28"/> <dc:contributor>Oldham, Neil J.</dc:contributor> <dcterms:isPartOf rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/rdf/resource/123456789/28"/> <dc:creator>Boland, Wilhelm</dc:creator> <dcterms:title>Benzoic acid, a stimulant of odorant receptors of Bombyx mori, is rapidly metabolized to N-benzoylserine on the antennae</dcterms:title> <dc:contributor>Kanaujia, Sudha</dc:contributor> <dc:rights>deposit-license</dc:rights> <foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://localhost:8080/jspui"/> <dcterms:bibliographicCitation>Publ. in: Chemoecology ; 11 (2001), 4. - S. 183-190</dcterms:bibliographicCitation> <dc:creator>Kanaujia, Sudha</dc:creator> <dc:creator>Spiteller, Dieter</dc:creator> <void:sparqlEndpoint rdf:resource="http://localhost/fuseki/dspace/sparql"/> <dcterms:rights rdf:resource="http://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:bsz:352-20140905103605204-4002607-1"/> <dcterms:issued>2001</dcterms:issued> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF>
