2011-03-25T09:36:42Z 2000 This Master's thesis examines the epistemological basis
of the concept 'ambivalence,' and demonstrates that
argumentation which takes ambivalence seriously can be
justified through the epistemological position of
constructivism. In order to verify this thesis, three
important works (also concerned with theory of cognition)
were compared with each other: Mead's concept of
perspectives, the system theory of Luhmann and
the paradigm concept of Kuhn. It was possible through
comparison to elaborate a concept of ambivalence which
is based on the epistemological premises of
constructivism. Additionally, it was shown that the concepts
'perspective,' 'system,' 'paradigm' have the same
meaning in the epistemological sense.
Ambivalence could be understood conceptually as the
competing of perspectives (or systems or paradigms, respectively). An
interpretation of perspectives
(systems, paradigms) in the sense of constructivism is
required as a basis. This means that perspectives are no
more or less appropriate representations of an
independently existing 'Outside world' (as
ontological realism accepts this), but that perspectives
are constructions of the world in the world -
possibilities of the world to face itself. Thereby, the
dualism in the sense of Descartes is overcome.
Furthermore, it can be considered that in order to
distinguish ambivalence and conflict, the
concurrent perspectives must be integrated, for
instance, in a psychological system or in a family
system.
The elaborated conception was validated both
theoretically and practically (through empirical
examples). terms-of-use Räwel, Jörg application/pdf Räwel, Jörg Conceptual deliberations to ambivalence.
