Childhood is connected with various contradictions: Children are, for example, victims and committers. They suffer from poverty and are a focus group of commercialism. They are neglected and spoiled. These contradictions culminate in the new field of child politics. The aim is to stucture this vast field in an actual perspective of social ecology. A typology of approaches in child politics is presented. The expertise "Children and their childhood in Germany" serves to illustrate inhowfar the different types are able to deal with ambivalences in a constructive way. Finally, the future development of child politics is discussed.

Kindsein ist mit Widersprüchen verbunden: Kinder sind beispielsweise Opfer und Täter. Sie leiden unter Armut und erfreuen sich der Aufmerksamkeit der Werbung. Sie werden vernachlässigt und verwöhnt. Diese Widersprüche kulminieren in dem neuen Feld der Kinderpolitik. Dieses weite Feld wird in einer zeitgemäßen sozialökologischen Perspektive strukturiert. Es wird eine Typologie kinderpolitischer Ansätze entworfen. Anhand des Gutachtens "Kinder und ihre Kindheit in Deutschland" wird veranschaulicht, inwiefern die einzelnen Typen mit Zwiespältigkeit konstruktiv umgehen können. Es folgt eine abschließende Diskussion zur Weiterentwicklung von Kinderpolitik.
