In Study 1, when negative experiences preceded failure, action and reflection implementation intention participants showed higher rates of disengagement than mere goal intention and no intention participants. However, when positive experiences preceded failure, only action implementation intention participants maintained this high disengagement rate. In Study 2, we observed that time pressure moderated the facilitating effects of action and reflection implementation intentions on disengagement when negative experiences preceded failure. Whereas the effect of action implementation intentions benefited from time pressure, the effect of reflection implementation intentions did not. The present studies construe disengagement as a self-regulation process and highlight the benefits of implementation intentions as a self-regulation tool.</dcterms:abstract> <dc:contributor>Henderson, Marlone D.</dc:contributor> <dcterms:available rdf:datatype="">2011-03-25T09:26:06Z</dcterms:available> <dcterms:isPartOf rdf:resource=""/> <dspace:isPartOfCollection rdf:resource=""/> <bibo:uri rdf:resource=""/> <dcterms:bibliographicCitation>First publ. in: Journal of Behavioral Decision Making 20 (2007), 1, pp. 81-102</dcterms:bibliographicCitation> <dcterms:issued>2007</dcterms:issued> <void:sparqlEndpoint rdf:resource="http://localhost/fuseki/dspace/sparql"/> <dspace:hasBitstream rdf:resource=""/> <dcterms:title>Implementation Intentions and Disengagement from a Failing Course of Action</dcterms:title> <dcterms:rights rdf:resource=""/> <dc:rights>terms-of-use</dc:rights> <dc:format>application/pdf</dc:format> <dc:creator>Gollwitzer, Peter M.</dc:creator> <dc:creator>Henderson, Marlone D.</dc:creator> <dcterms:hasPart rdf:resource=""/> <dc:date rdf:datatype="">2011-03-25T09:26:06Z</dc:date> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF>
