Abstract

Cultural comparison is used as a method to study culture-specific and universal meanings of certain aspects of socialization in the family. Adolescents from 2 industrialized societies with different culture were questionned. The results show that certain parental goals and practices (such as parental control) are accepted or rejected according to the given cultural context; however, parent-child-relations were rather invariant across cultures. The interpretation of the data bases on the assumption that cultural values determine the kind and subjective experience of interactions between parents and children.

Der Kulturvergleich wird als Methode eingesetzt, um die kulturspezifische und -invariante Bedeutung bestimmter familialer Sozialisationsmerkmale zu untersuchen. Dazu wurden Jugendliche aus zwei Industrienationen verschiedener Kulturen befragt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen u. a ., daß bestimmte Erziehungsziele und -praktiken (wie elterliche Kontrolle) je nach kulturellem Kontext akzeptiert oder abgelehnt werden, daß aber die Eltern-Kind-Beziehungen relativ kulturinvariant sind. Die Interpretation der Ergebnisse geht von der Annahme aus, daß kulturelle Werte die Eltern-Kind-Interaktionen und deren Deutung durch die Beteiligten vermitteln.
