TREFZ, Anke, 2004. Summative Evaluation eines Mitarbeiterfragebogens als formativer Ansatz zur Optimierung von Mitarbeiterbefragungen

@mastersthesis{Trefz2004Summa-10292, title={Summative Evaluation eines Mitarbeiterfragebogens als formativer Ansatz zur Optimierung von Mitarbeiterbefragungen}, year={2004}, author={Trefz, Anke} }

In this work the employee survey of an international company from the year 2002 is evaluated retrospectively.The survey was carried out on the basis of the EFQM-Model which had been introduced in this company the year before.

The main question of research is if the questionnaire of the international company satisfies methodological standards and is designed efficiently for its means.
The quality of the questionnaire is measured by the representativeness of the gathered data and by the quality of the questionnaire in a test-theoretical sense.

The research results show, that the results of the employee survey can only be generalised in a limited way, as on the one hand the return rate of 48% is considered as critical (cf. Bungard, 1997) and on the other hand the amount of missing values for items in the questionnaire is exceptionally high (cf. Schnell et al., 1999).

There are systematic differences between groups regarding the refusal of response, as could be shown by an analysis of variance. Employees in high positions and employees, who have worked for the company for a long time, more seldom refuse to respond. Employees who work abroad and employees who filled out the original German version of the questionnaire and not the translated version more seldom refused to respond to items.

Employees in high positions and employees who have worked for the company for a long time might have more information on the company which makes it easier to understand the questions and fill out the questionnaire.
A higher level of education as well as a strong involvement in the organisation may also play a role when answering the questions (cf. Goyder, 1987).

The reason why employees working abroad more seldom refused to respond than employees working in Germany can be explained by the fact that some items in the questionnaire were only relevant for employees working abroad and were not meant to be answered by the employees working in Germany. Differences in response regarding the language of the questionnaire might be put down to inadequate translation.

The examination of the structure of the questionnaire by means of factor analysis shows that the questionnaire of the international organisation mainly consists of topics from research on work satisfaction. The internal consistency of measures of the questionnaire, which result from the factor analysis, can be considered as good or satisfactory, respectively, apart from one measure. The factor analysis and the examination of internal consistency also indicate which items can be excluded from the questionnaire from a methodological point of view.

Finally, ways are presented in which following surveys by the international organisation can be optimised on the basis of the presented results and the literature on employe surveys.
