As predictions derived from different theoretical approaches are contradictory and experimental evidence is inconclusive in this regard, we conducted two categorization experiments, where we contrasted two experimental paradigms. In the first experiment subjects had to verify, whether a word and a laterally presented picture matched or not. In the second experiment subjects had to identify laterally presented pictures of animals either at the basic or subordinate level by pressing a corresponding response key. Whereas the first experiment revealed an advantage of the left hemisphere (LH) for categorizing objects at the basic level and of the right hemisphere (RH) for categorizing at the subordinate level, just the opposite brain asymmetry was found in the second experiment. As the stimuli were identical in both experiments, hemispheric asymmetries seem to be strongly task dependent.</dcterms:abstract> <dcterms:isPartOf rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/rdf/resource/123456789/43"/> <foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://localhost:8080/jspui"/> <void:sparqlEndpoint rdf:resource="http://localhost/fuseki/dspace/sparql"/> <dc:creator>Studer, Tobias</dc:creator> <dspace:hasBitstream rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/bitstream/123456789/10225/1/StuderHuebner_08.pdf"/> <dcterms:available rdf:datatype="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#dateTime">2011-03-25T09:15:14Z</dcterms:available> <dcterms:hasPart rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/bitstream/123456789/10225/1/StuderHuebner_08.pdf"/> <dc:creator>Hübner, Ronald</dc:creator> <dc:rights>deposit-license</dc:rights> <dc:format>application/pdf</dc:format> <dcterms:issued>2008</dcterms:issued> <dc:contributor>Studer, Tobias</dc:contributor> <dcterms:rights rdf:resource="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/legalcode"/> <bibo:uri rdf:resource="http://kops.uni-konstanz.de/handle/123456789/10225"/> <dspace:isPartOfCollection rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/rdf/resource/123456789/43"/> <dcterms:bibliographicCitation>First publ. in: Brain and Cognition 67 (2008), 2, pp. 197 211</dcterms:bibliographicCitation> <dc:language>eng</dc:language> <dc:date rdf:datatype="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#dateTime">2011-03-25T09:15:14Z</dc:date> <dc:contributor>Hübner, Ronald</dc:contributor> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF>
