Abstract
The properties of two-dimensional (2D) colloidal systems in the presence of a strong laser field are studied. By interfering three laser beams we obtain a 2D laser field, which acts as an artificial substrate potential to the particles. In contrast to topographical substrate potentials, the use of a light potential allows changes in the potential strength and the periodicity of the substrate potential continuously. We report first results on charge stabilised polystyrene particles on a triangular light potential.
