Abstract
This contribution points out directions for visualization research in the context of a particular approach to visual analytics. This approach is characterized by a holistic view of the data and its integrated visual representation, and its main requirements are multivariate micro-visualizations, layered abstractions, and direct-response interaction with information-oriented controls.
