Abstract
This article briefly outlines the diversity of the reception of Marxism in the West German Student Movement of the 1960s. The focus is not so much on intellectual tradition lines as on different hopes and expectations projected onto reading Marx: How the students read Marx and what they hoped for from reading changed with the situation of the movement and the individual readers. Letters, diaries, notes, and minutes contain ephemeral fugacious Marxisms that reveal less about Marx than about the relationship of a movement to its alleged intellectual foundation.
