Zusammenfassung

The contribution focuses on a letter sent by the missionary bishop Boniface to the nun Bugga, which is dated to shortly before 738. In this letter, Boniface advised his interlocutor to postpone her planned pilgrimage to Rome until the "Saracen" threat to the city had ended. The article contextualizes the letter as part of the correspondence between both clerics and asks how the Arabic-Islamic expansion was perceived north of the Alps.
