Zusammenfassung

Tensors are among the most important notions in nonlinear algebra, generalizing such fundamental objects as a vector, a matrix and polynomial. They play a prominent role in abstract algebraic geometry and are used in practice in computer science, statistics, artificial intelligence, physics and many more. In this expository article we give a glimpse at Bernd Sturmfels's remarkable contributions to this theory. We focus on interplays of geometry and the theory of tensors, as well as applications of complex numbers to study real objects.
