Zusammenfassung
This article discusses Nancy Brysson Morrison’s novel The Gowk Storm in relation to grief and the environment. It examines the strategies through which the novel captures and reimagines grief through the merging of human history with the nonhuman temporalities of the environment of the Scottish Highlands. A postcritical reading of Morrison’s novel The Gowk Storm reveals that her environmental use of the elegiac form produces non-linear temporalities that contribute to a politics of resistant mourning that may still speak to today’s readers and help them navigate the crises and tragedies of the twenty-first century.
