Zusammenfassung
Based on the study of regulatory instruments and open-ended in-depth interviews, this chapter focuses on the innovative work of the Prefectura Naval Argentina (PNA) in addressing illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing through non-punitive solutions. Specifically, this chapter analyses the PNA’s intervention in the Huali 8 case, which the PNA described as a “paradigm shift” in the control of IUU in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Bridging green and blue criminology, this chapter highlights a case in the Global South that shows how a law enforcement agency destined to exercise punitive power sought to explore alternative courses of action that have served as an example in other parts of the world.
