Zusammenfassung
Gender equality is a fundamental value and human right in modern societies and a central prerequisite for inclusive societies. However, women and men are still not equally represented across occupations in most Western societies. This chapter discusses current research that examines pathways to gender inequalities from the perspective of the (situated) expectancy-value theory of achievement motivation. The chapter provides insights into how gender differences in motivation develop from childhood to adolescence and which intersections exist with ethnicity; discusses the role of socialisation partners such as parents, peers, and teachers in the development of gendered motivation and behaviour; and introduces research on interventions that aim to address gender differences in motivation.
