Zusammenfassung
Self-related cognitions have often been shown to be important variables in the context of learning and achievement. They impact motivation and affect, learning strategies and self-regulated learning as well as educational and occupational aspirations. This symposium discusses current international research activities related to competence judgments and illustrates their crucial role within research on self-related cognitions. New and intriguing approaches on antecedents and effects of judgments of competence will be presented. The symposium will feature scholars from the U.S., Canada, China, Australia, England, and Germany. They present data using different research designs, including experimental studies, intraindividual and interindividual approaches, and cross-sectional as well as longitudinal designs.
