Zusammenfassung
This thesis represents one of the first attempts to design an experimental setup which allows for measuring the electrical conductivity of molecules in solvents. The system is based on the mechanically controllable breakjunction technique, which provides two atomically sharp electrodes, which face each other. The distance of the electrode tips can be altered with an accuracy of a few Angstrom. This setup therefore provides a means of investigation of molecules with various lengths. A liquid cell was developed during this thesis that allows easy application of solutions on the breakjunction. The cell also facilitates the exchange of solutions to be measured subsequently on the same sample.
The author has proved that the characterization of molecular ensembles is possible with the technique he developed for this thesis.
