Zusammenfassung

The relationships between different religions are not always peaceful on the societal level. India has experienced a lot of conflicts in that respect. We therefore study the question, how religious diversity may engender conflicts on the organizational level in India as well. We studied the relationship between religious diversity ( Blau's index) and conflicts between teachers in 47 schools in South India. Regression analysis shows, it is not primarily the religious diversity as such, which matters. Conflicts are rising. There are some teachers who think about religious issues in a more liberal or secular way and other teachers who think in a more fundamentalistic way. We discuss questions of further research and managerial implications.
