Zusammenfassung
"Kanadische Literaturgeschichte" surveys for the first time English-Canadian and French-Canadian literature in a German publication, from the oral traditions of the Inuit and First Nations and the literatures of Canada's two founding nations to contemporary literatures of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. English-Canadian and French-Canadian literary production is analyzed in its differences but also regarding mutual references and influences. Going beyond the traditional English-Canadian and French-Canadian canon, the volume also explores the country's great cultural diversity as manifesting itself in a fascinating literary production by Canadian authors of various cultural backgrounds and ethnicities. CanLit thus emerges as an expression of the multivocal cultural memory of a genuinely multicultural nation.
