Zusammenfassung

In this study, we focus on the antecedents and effects of two emotions experienced most frequently by teachers: enjoyment and anger. There are only few empirical studies on teacher emotions (Sutton & Wheatley, 2003). Existing data suggest that positive emotions of teachers result from perceived student success, but also good relationships with colleagues and parents (e.g. Hargreaves, 1999). Negative emotions are related to disruptive student behavior, stress, and aversive experiences with colleagues and parents. Drawing upon research on teacher burnout (e.g. Vandenberghe & Huberman, 1999), we further assumed that characteristics of the class including size, gender ratio, and achievement level might be determinants of emotions experienced by teachers.
