Zusammenfassung

Diana Wynne Jones's Year of the Griffin (2001) ist set in a wizard's University where magic is taught and studied. The setting is unique in not only portraying different ways of approaching and studying magic but in also depicting the wider educational process of teaching and learning any kind of science. It is possible to compare the various theories of magic and methods of its study to our world's theories of science. Radical changes in magic use and magical education take place in the course of the novel that can be best discussed in terms of Thomas Kuhn's theory of paradigm shifts.
