Zusammenfassung
Sociobiology is the study of the evolution of sociality, assuming adaptation through selection. Explaining group formation, parental investment, and mating systems from selection operating on the individual constitutes the core of sociobiology. In this chapter, we focus on these aspects of the social lives of open water (cetaceans), amphibious (pinnipeds), and coastal/terrestrial mammals (sirenians, sea otters, polar bears).
