Zusammenfassung

This article deals with a letter which was written by Pope Hadrian I to all the bishops of the Iberian Peninsula. The letter calls on the bishops to take action against the decline of Christian religious practice and the spread of heretical ideas. Thus, it suggests that parts of the Iberian Church under Muslim rule were open to heterodox currents within early-medieval Christianity. Based on this document, the article examines the relations of the papacy to the Iberian Peninsula and discusses the effects of the Muslim conquest on the religious practice of Iberian Christians.
