Zusammenfassung
This article addresses the historical development of the System of National Accounts (SNA) as a process of negotiating and struggling about concepts and definitions. It starts with an explanation of the idea of the SNA, presents briefly some of its predecessors and shows its chronological development in the twentieth century, national differences in the adoption of the SNA, and the main cleavages in the international harmonization process. Then, it goes deeper in the revision of the most recent SNA and, finally, shows its political relevance.
