Zusammenfassung
This essay explores the link between feminism and modern Islam in Western Europe using the example of Poetic Pilgrimage, a duo of British female rappers and poets of Jamaican and African origin. Both women converted to Islam and use their performances as a vehicle for their faith and for the recognition of Muslim communities in the West. Simultaneously, they present themselves as activists for women's rights in Islamic societies. In this way, Poetic Pilgrimage move between two cultures that are often depicted as incompatible, especially since 9/11.
