Zusammenfassung

The poster presents Dr. Kengatharaiyer Sarveswaran's work on developing a Dependency Parser for the Tamil language, a classical language with a rich literary tradition, spoken by over 80 million people. Tamil, a low-resource language with limited computational resources, presents unique computational challenges due to its diglossic nature and morphological richness. The project's goal is to enhance linguistic analysis and improve computer applications like machine translation and question-answering systems for Tamil. Methodology includes collecting data from online sources and textbooks, preprocessing text, and employing Universal Dependencies for cross-linguistic analysis. The project has achieved notable results, including a Part of Speech tagger with 93.27% accuracy and a Dependency Parser with a 75.53% Labelled Attachment Score. The poster also lists relevant publications and poses questions about future improvements and the potential use of Lexical Functional Grammar.
