Zusammenfassung

In this paper, I present some considerations about the Kantian understanding of animal life and argue that for Kant humans and animals have important characteristics in common. On the basis of Kant’s view on the moral status of animals, some interpreters have suggested that animals for Kant do not deserve more moral consideration than unanimated objects. I show that this kind of interpretations do not understand correctly Kant’s view on animal life and do not consider his dissatisfaction with the conceptual distinction between persons and things.
