Zusammenfassung
This longitudinal study examined the mediator model postulated in the Health Action Process Approach (HAPA). Specifically, the study emphasizes the impact of self-efficacy beliefs and self-regulation processes on the adoption and maintenance of health-related behaviors (i.e., healthy diet, and physical exercise). Data were gathered at two measurement points in time, 6-months apart, from a longitudinal sample of about 500 Costa Ricans. Results supported assumptions and offer new insights regarding the prediction of health-related intentions (motivation phase) and health-related actions (volitional phase). Findings are compared with previous results and discussed in light of cross-cultural validation and implications for health promotion.
