Abstract
This paper addresses the role of noncognitive skills in the determination of wages in Germany. During the last years a considerable part of the empirical labor market research focused on the estimation of returns to education. However, an additional consideration of noncognitive skills can shed more light on the wage differences given a certain level of education and provide a better understanding of the role skill factors are playing in predicting wages in Germany. The empirical results of this paper clearly show that noncognitive skills matter as factors for labor market success, controlling for different aspects like education or professional experience.
