Zusammenfassung

The article describes the latest Europeanization as chronopolitics based on moral regulation and liberal othering. It is argued that the moralization of post-communist identities is a most ominous, authoritarian feature of the transition and Europeanization of eastern Europe. The role of the cultural elite is discussed using the example of the Romanian transition.
