Zusammenfassung

The Kushk-e Ardashir of Bozpar is a building belonging to the Late Sasanian architectural tradition. In a previous article, we have suggested it can be dated to around the mid-seventh century. Analysis of the building’s construction techniques, one of the aspects covered by this article, enables a better understanding of its architectural context. The building’s function is subject to extensive discussion, and we suggest it was palatial. We further consider its complex visual-architectural symbolism: between dome, eyvān, semidome squinches and possible rooftop structures, the Kushk-e Ardashir emerges as a key building for understanding the dynamics of architectural and functional transmission from the Sasanian to the Islamic period.
