Abstract
In the last few decades, music theory witnessed an increasing trend toward quantification. The quantification of musical data lead to a fast growing demand for statistical methods. Potentially, all areas of statistics can be useful for answering questions in musicology. Due to the complexity of music, often new statistical methods have to be developed. In the following, a brief overview is given, illustrated by a few examples.
